Aftercare

After your tattoo appointment, your artist will tell you how to best take care of your new addition. Care instructions will be also provided in written form to refer to throughout the healing process.

IN GENERAL, WE RECOMMEND:

  • Remove the bandage within 2-3 hours after getting your tattoo. Do not re-bandage.
  • Wash your tattoo with an antibacterial liquid soap. Be gentle, do not use a washcloth or anything that will exfoliate your tattoo. Wash and then pat dry with paper towels.
  • Rub a small amount of ointment on your tattoo. You may use Bepanthen, but we advise using all natural coconut oil. You want the thinnest amount possible. Wash and dry the area and then apply oil 3-5 times daily, as needed.
  • The less oil the better, people often think that appling a thick layer will last longer but you will only ruin your tattoo, remember LESS IS MORE.
Wear clean, soft clothing over your tattoo for the first 2 weeks – nothing abrasive or irritating.
  • For a foot tattoo: go barefoot as much as possible. If you must wear shoes, first wrap your clean tattoo in saran wrap, then cover with a clean cotton sock before putting on your shoe. Avoid sandals or flip flops for this period to prevent chafing and damage to the tattoo.
Your tattoo will begin to peel. This is normal! Do not pick at the skin. Begin using a mild, white, unscented lotion, free of dyes or Perfumes.
  • Use lotion for minimum 2 weeks, 2-3 times daily.

THINGS TO AVOID:

  • Do not pick, scratch, peel, rub or irritate your tattoo.
  • You can shower, but you may not soak your tattoo for 2 weeks. No swimming, soaking or hot tub.
  • You may not expose your tattoo to the sun for at least 4 weeks, after that you must use sun block. The higher the factor the better.
  • Do not wear abrasive materials, jewellery, or shoes that rub against your tattoo while it heals.
  • Do not let anyone touch your tattoo unless they wash their hands.
  • Beware of gym equipment, wash it well before using it.
  • Try to avoid the gym for the first two day then after make sure you keep the tattoo clean whilst in the gym and clean instantly after any training.
  • Always remember little stress and physical stress, plenty of sleep and a healthy diet will support the healing process.
  • In the first few days swelling and bruises may occur. These are a tattoo/injury-related reaction and there is no need to worry.

If you like, after about three to six weeks, you can come to the studio for a visual inspection of the tattoo any we can give any advice if necessary.

Alternatively if you want to give us a call within studio hours we will be happy to advise over the phone.
